The Rock hung on to defeat the BC Bears

The Rock hung on to defeat the BC Bears 31-30 in Canadian Rugby Championship play yesterday in a nail biter at the Swilers Rugby Complex.

Down by a score of 31-17 deep into the second half, the Bears scored two tries through Mercier and Rybkowski to narrow the score to 31-30.

The Rock were called for a penalty with moments left on the clock giving Bears fullback Connor Braid (who had scored 20 of his side's points) an opportunity to win the match with a 3 point penalty. With the crowd roaring and using megaphones and crashing cymbals, Braid's kick glanced wide off the left post to give The Rock the victory.

Dean Blanks led The Rock with 16 points from four penalties and two conversions while tries were scored by Kevin Parfrey, Zac Coughlan and Mike Simpson.

The Rock have one CRC match remaining when they take on the Ontario Blues in Burlington on September 3.
